Diving Cenote Zapote - Quintana Roo, Riviera Maya, Tulum, Mexico on 3rd, 12th, 23rd & 24th of March 2022 with Diving Capital - https://www.divingcapital.com/.

Cenote Zapote is named after the zapote trees which are growing in the area around the cenote. It is located near Puerto Morelos in the Mayan "Ruta de los Cenotes". Cenote Zapote is a typical sinkhole that has a topography like an hourglass. At the surface, the cenote has a diameter of around 30 meters with a lot of water lilies growing. The tightest point of the hourglass is at a depth of 20-21 meters. As soon as we pass that point, the cenote opens to a wide and large room which is fully decorated with formations that look like bells. The light inside the room is slightly green and below us lies a cloud of hydrogen sulfide. Because of these effects, the cenote is also called “Hells Bells”.

The bottom is covered with an extensive debris cone of organic matter, including leaves and wood, which is the source of the hydrogen sulfide.

Average depth the dives was 21 meter, max depth 33,8, average dive time was 30 minutes, water temperature 24°C.
